There are some potential negative environmental impacts of geothermal energy. Geothermal plants would release some carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, methane, and ammonia in the the environment. There is also evidence that hydraulic fracturing, which is needed to create geothermal systems, can cause thousands of small earthquakes. Although geothermal energy does have some drawbacks, it is important to note that current ways of creating energy usually have many more serious cons associated with their production.
