Are there any natural chemicals in steroids?

Steroids are a type of chemical — a terpenoid lipid — that are produced by plants, animals and fungi. In fact, there are hundreds of distinct steroids produced naturally by organisms. The “steroids” you’re talking about — those used commercially to “boost performance” — are anabolic steroids. They occur naturally in the body under usual circumstances, but they are now produced synthetically to enhance the normal effects (with a slew of associated unpleasant side-effects). So, bottom line, the steroids you’re talking about are probably synthetic versions of chemicals usually synthesized in humans and other organisms naturally.
