Generally pollutants are defined as those things that are not natural contaminating the environment. Even if they are of a natural sources they are usually only considered pollutants if there are unnatural amounts of it. One common source of contamination from a “natural” source is disposal of bodily waste both from humans and from livestock in large factory farms.

A natural contribution to pollutants arises from the emission of Biogenic Volatile Organic Compounds by plants, trees, and vegetation.  These Biogenic VOCs can react with pollutants (such as nitrigen oxides) to form ozone.
