According to an article on the News Scientist (2007) website, it is impossible to prove that any one natural disaster was caused by global warming. This is primarily because weather is described to have a “chaotic nature”. It is possible however to prove that climate change played a part in increasing the intensity or extremity of a natural disaster. An example of this would be Hurricane Katrina; atmospheric factors had to be a certain way in order for a storm of this magnitude to occur. Scientists have speculated that a rise in sea temperature could have contributed to the intensity of this particular natural disaster (News Scientist, 2007).
