Are there any minerals that are magnetic?

    Magnetite. Also known as lodestone, this is a rock that is magnetic and there is historical evidence that ancient greek people knew of the magnetic properties. This was later harnessed into creating magnetic compasses, allowing sailors a better sense of direction while at sea.

    A few other minerals besides magnetite are also magnetic, though not as strongly as magnetite. The list includes pyrrhotite and ilmenite.
