According to Northwestern University Qualitative Reasoning Group, mice are naturally herbivores. They typically eat about 26 calories a day of fruit or grain from various plants.
There are actually a few breeds of mice that often resort to being carnivores due to available food sources. In fact, this has caused problems in prarie dog populations in the Rockies and the Great Plains. What will happen is these field mice will feast on the corpses of prarie dogs that recently died from a plague outbreak. Fleas from the carcas will then jump on to the mice and the mice will then travel to other colonies of prarie dogs that would otherwise not come into contact with each other, essentially becoming vessels for the plague. Fascinating stuff.
