Grapefruits are one of the most versatile fruits in terms of their medical usage. Along with stimulating appetites, grapefuits have been known to be a good source for weight loss. This is because the fruit is low in calories but extremely high in fiber. These amazing fruits are also filled with pectic, which is a soluble fiber that reduces blood cholesterol. Pink grapefuits are high in lycopene, an anti-oxidant which has been shown to reduce prostate cancer. There are other beneficial chemicals contained in this fruit including phenolic acid, which inhibits the formation of cancer-causing nitrosamines; limonoids, terpenes, and monoterpenes, which induce the production of enzymes that help prevent cancer; and bioflavonoids, which inhibit the action of hormones that promote tumor growth.
