Besides humans, bonobos and dolphins are the only other animals that mate for pleasure. This means that males and females engage in sex with each other even though there is no possibility of producing offspring.
This is a difficult question to answer because scientists can’t actually ask animals if they mate for pleasure or not. Bonobos and Dolphins are most commonly thought of as the species other than humans that mate for pleasure because they have been observed engaging in homosexual acts as well as masturbation. This has also been observed in insects, sheep, birds and many other species as well. In order to collect semen from horses, a stallion or stud will engage sexually with an AV (artificial vagina). All of this could be seen as evidence that many animals mate for pleasure. The ultimate reason, of course, is still procreation.
