It appears that all lizzards lose their tails, but not all lizzards can grow them back. There are some lizzards that lose their tails easily (like the glass lizzard) but some that take quite a bit more to lose a tail (like the collared lizzard). The tail stores energy (in the form of fats) for the lizzard, and tails help lizzards run faster, so losing a tail is quite bad for it, however better than losing its life.
