As of July 2009 there is one LEED Platinum grocery store. It is located in Augusta, Maine and is part of the Hannaford Supermarket chain.
LEED is a green building certification system. There are several levels ranging from Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum, being the highest. These levels are determined by the number of points a building gets in the LEED rating system.
The rating system focuses on such things as “energy savings, water efficiency, CO2emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts” (usgbc.org).
