Yes, there are! An example is University of Michigan’s TCF Stadium became LEED certified in 2009. It received the Silver LEED certification, which is the third highest behind platinum and gold. The stadium got the designation because “it was built with 90 percent recycled steel. It also uses an underground system to drain and filter rainwater before it’s discharged to the Mississippi River.”
I don’t know what type of “football” we’re discussing, but Qatar’s bid to host the 2022 World Cup is augmented by solar-powered stadiums and the promise of being able to dismantle the stadiums and ship components to other areas where stadiums are being constructed.
