Reintroductions into the wild are usually done with larger fauna, and I couldn’t find any past instances of where insects were introduced into nature other than a means of pest control. However, a group in Scotland called the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds is planning to do just that; they will reintroduce four declining species of insects into the wild. The RSPB will be reintroducing the dark bordered beauty moth, the pine hoverfly, field crickets, and short haired bumblebees.
