One problem with hybrid container ships (assuming you mean diesel-electric power) is that the ships almost always run on full power and for long periods of time. So engineers are looking for new ways to give some fuel savings to container ships. One is SkySails, which is a company that basically makes enormous (1,700 square feet) sails that can be flown 1,000 feet about sea level to pull the boat along. At that height, there is usually always wind blowing. This has shown, at times, a 50 percent savings in fuel.
I would call this a “hybrid” method since it mixes gas and wind, almost perfectly down the middle actually.
