Are there any homes that are completely built out of sustainable/recycled/green materials (in the US or in the world)?

Yes 🙂 Mike Reynolds’s earthships (though other people are building them now) are built out of recycled materials – cans, bottles, tires, dirt/adobe.  The general rule is that all materials must be found locally in order to meet sustainability requirements.  Earthships are some of the most economic homes in the world and can be found in the U.S. though obviously they’re not the norm.  There are a bunch outside Taos New Mexico where Mike Reynolds began building and people can do internships there.

My boyfriend and his friends also build houses out of natural materials like adobe and cob domes, but they’re not quite as advanced as Mike Reynolds yet.
