Are there any health concerns for the thousands of Americans that are traveling to South Africa for the world cup?

    According to the CDC, World Cup attendees should visit a doctor specializing in travel medicine as well as with any doctors currently treating them for preexisting conditions.

    There are several diseases that are spread through insect bites including malaria and dengue fever. Anti-malarial drugs are recommended for many areas of the country.

    Yellow fever is not an issue in South Africa, you should get the vaccine if you are planning on visiting any other countries on the continent. 

    Much of Southern African freshwater has potential for parasitic infection and should be avoided entirely.
