Are there any harmful chemicals in regular hand lotion?

    This depends on what you mean by harmful.  Hand lotions sold in the US should be safe for their intended uses.  However, chemicals may vary greatly, and it is likely that ingesting lotion would not be good for humans or animals.  If you are concerned about a particular chemical you could look up the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for that chemical to learn how safe it is.  But, bear in mind that the chemical acetone, commonly used in fingernail polish is listed as dangerous, and requiring gloves and goggles to work with.

    Certain preservatives, dyes and fragrances can end up in “normal” hand lotion, which can often be linked to hormonal imbalance. It’s best to stick with natural lotions made with natural ingredients like jojoba oil or tea tree oil:
