There are – the Brighton branch of the Boston Public Library was recently renovated according to the LEED interior guidelines. Reopened in December of 2010, the library has cut its water and energy use by 30 and 35 percent respectively, and 95% of all waste material generated in the renovation process was recycled.
Logan Airport in Boston was also recently LEED Certified, and was the first airport to become so. The airport features heat-reflecting roofs and windows to help regulate temperature, lights that dim according to the amount of light brought in by windows, and a storm water filtration system. Airport administrators estimate the new technology will save nearly $300,000 in electricity bills in one year.
