Are there any good ways to store nuclear waste?

The majority of scientists have decided that for the time being, until another adequate option is discovered, storing radioactive nuclear waste buried deep within the earth is the safest choice.  Sheltered from any serious terrorist threat, the radioactive materials are sealed in steel-lined concrete containers, buried up to 1,000 feet down into the Earth.

Although there really isn’t necessarily a “good” way to deal with the waste, the government is at least working on a central location, Yucca Mountain in Nevada, where we can create a central disposal facility.

Even this however has created a lot of controversy as it would involve transport of highly dangerous materials across almost all state lines, on its way to Nevada.
