It is always a good idea to wash your fruits and vegetables, especially those that you purchase in the store. Items that are not packed may have been handled by people who have not recently washed their hands (and may have a cold or bacteria on their hands). If you grow your own fruits and veggies you may also want to wash them to remove any dust or animal droppings that may have fallen on them.
You generally don’t need to worry about washing vegetables or fruits that you peal before eating (for example oranges or bananas).
