Whether true freshwater sharks exist has yet to be determined. However, there are marine sharks, such as the bull shark, that are known to migrate up into freshwater. specifically in the Amazon river and in Lake Nicaragua. It is important to note that marine sharks cannot breed in freshwater and have to return to ocean to reproduce. Bull sharks can however stay in freshwater environments for long periods of time.
There are small, aquarium sharks that are called freshwater sharks. They are not related to marine sharks though. These include Bala Sharks, Redtail Sharks, Chinese Hi Fin Banded Sharks, and Rainbow Sharks to name a few.
