Photovoltaic (PV) cells do not use turbines. They convert sunlight directly into electricity. Materials are still quite costly so the technology, though one of the least disruptive forms of energy production, has not become as widespread as one would hope. That said PV cells can be found in many things we use everyday such as calculators and sidewalk lamps.
