A car-free, eco-friendly suburb with verticle urban farms has been planned for just outside of Melbourne, Australia, where a former industrial site once stood. However, the suburb will not be completed until about five or six years from now.
Vauban, Germany (a small village outside of Freiburg) is also quite eco-friendly. It was once a barracks for the French military following World War II. It too is car-free, with a solar-powered car park at the village limits where visitors leave their vehicles.
