Yes there are many eco friendly options for shingles from sustainably certified wood, to shingles made from post consumer waste recycled materials. I think the most eco friendly shingle is the ones that are photovoltaic. They are little solar panels that look like shingles so you don’t have those big ugly solar panels on your roof.
