The dolphins on the endangered list includes Hector’s dolphin, the Amazon river dolphin, the Indopacific humpback dolphin, the Baiji or Chinese white dolphin, the Dusky dolphin, Striped dolphin, and the Tucuxi. There are approximately 22 other dolphin and porpoise species that are on the waiting list.
The Indus River Dolphin and the Baiji, also known as the Yangtze River Dolphin, are both on the endangered species list. Some of the reasons dolphins are becoming endangered is because of them being caught in fishermen’s nets. Since dolphins follow the same route as tuna, they sometimes get caught in nets meant to catch tuna, which leads to them being fatally wounded or drowning.
