Are there any diseases caused by noise pollution?

Noise pollution cannot cause a physical disease per se, but it can cause hearing damage over time. Longer exposure to louder sounds such as living in a city near so many car engines can cause tinnitus (persistent ringing in the ear) or can cause hearing loss. Over stimulation of the cochlea in the inner ear is harmful to the cilia that converts vibrations to audible sound, and these become brittle and do not regenerate after breaking away, causing the hearing loss.
