“Carbon footprint” measures not only carbon dioxide, but other greenhouse gases, electricity, heat, and other factors.

In terms of carbon dioxide, the United States has the 9th largest carbon footprint as of 2006. The eight countries with larger footprints are Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Bahrain, Aruba, Luxembourg, Netherlands Antilles, and Trinidad and Tobago.
