Many countries throughout history have fortified their borders with fences or walls to keep people out. Historical examples include the Great Wall of China and the Berlin wall.
More recently, border fences have popped up on the borders of Malaysia and Thailand, as well as Kuwait and Iraq. Other border fences include one between the Gaza strip and Egypt and one between India and Bangladesh.
Israel has built a huge wall with a very fortified fence between the mainland and the gaza strip. This allows them to prevent hamas from sneaking bombs and weapons into the area. Israel has been secure for the past two years after this wall was built. However, it is very controversial and has got them into trouble, especially with turkey.
