Many countries do not have enough sources of clean water available to sustain their population. Several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Oceania and parts of Asia are experiencing trouble making sanitary water available to everyone, especially in rural areas. If water is not sanitary enough, it can cause disease and even death.

    • In Sub-Saharan Africa, only 60% of the population has access to enough sanitary water.
    • Only 50% of Oceania’s population has access to clean water.
    • Countries like China and India are still struggling to meet water needs, but have made great improvements in the last few years. In fact 89% of China’s 1.3 billion citizens now have access to sanitary water and 88% of the 1.2 billion people in India are able to get clean water as well.
    • Recent polls by Gallup International indicate that inadequate water supply affects two-thirds of Pakistan’s population.
