Are there any companies that have made safer rings for their six packs of soda?

Yes, the company called PakTech created a new kind of ring to hold six-packs of soda together that is made of HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene), which is meant to be recycled. The old kind of plastic ring was made of LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene), which photo-degrades (breaks down in sunlight) in 90 days and is not recyclable.

Not only are the new canned soda/beer rings low-waste and recyclable, but they protect marine wildlife as well. Plastic soda rings can choke or otherwise kill marine wildlife. But the PakTech design uses a cardboard piece around the can to eliminate this risk.
