I’m not sure of any US communities that are completely reliant on renewable energy, but I found an article about Naperville, IL in which the aim to be the first. The Naperville Renewable Energy Program is made up off 99% wind and 1% solar energy from the state of Illinois, and plans to generate 16,047,000 kWh annually. The plan will utilize the Providence Heights wind farm just north of Naperville, and the solar panels will come from a partnership with the Illinois Solar Energy Association. This will allow residents to get their electricity from these resources without much reliance on the traditional power grid.
