There are city food bank programs and programs like food stamps and WIC. WIC stand for Women, Infants, and Children. The program provides “Federal grants to States for supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk.”
There are also programs for school time reduced meals and summer meals for children, these are usually through local school districts.
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a great way to get fresh, local food in your community. There is a fee to join and you decide how often you want to recieve fresh, seasonal food delivered to your door. This is one of the best ways to support local farmers, reduce your carbon footprint, try new foods, and eat with the seasons. localharvest.org will help you search for a CSA near you
