No U.S. cities have out and out shut down fast food restaurants. However, in 2008, Los Angeles banned new fast food restaurants from being built in South LA. This region is one of LA’s poorest, and the city took this action to improve the health of its citizens. This action was taken around the same time that New York City put forth a requirement that all restaurants note how many calories are in each of their menu items.
