Most exotic cats, such as bengal tigers, leopards, and lions are illegal to buy and sell in the United States, although circus acts, zoos, and wildlife refuges are exempt. A lesser known breed, known as the Savannah Cat has become somewhat popular. This cat is half domestic cat/half African Serval Wild cat. It is rare due to the fact that males are sterile. However, their legality depends on the state, so check your states laws if you are interested in owning one.
Big cats are generally off limits. However, it depends on where you live. Lately half big cat/half domestic cat breeds have become popular, and states have different laws on ownership of these animals.
