There have been vehicles that use wood to power internal combustion engines. Most of the cars were used during World War II simply due to the scarcity of traditional vehicles fuels that were being used for the war effort (such as coal and oil). Other than custom or concept cars, there are no modern, large scale production wood burning vehicles (with the exception of cars designed to use biofuels, although they are not quite the same as putting wood directly into an internal combustion engine system).
