There are a few species, mainly in the ocean, that have outlasted the dinosaurs. Probably the most well known is the shark. The roots of all sharks can be traced back to fossilized remains found that date back more than 420 million years, 190 million years before the dinosaurs. Since then, sharks have branched into 440 known species, many of which thrive as their ecosystems top predator.
In addition, Crocodiles have been believed to have evolved as early as 200 million years ago. This means crocodiles, who probably evolved from the same species as dinosaurs, lived alongside the terrible lizards for 135 million years before they went extinct.
