Nah, apparently those vines depicted in Tarzan don’t actually exist. Lianas are usually the type of vine pointed to as the inspiration for Tarzan as they’re long, thick, and extremely strong. However, they are not free at the bottom to swing from. Lianas (and most types of vines) grow from the ground upward and twine around nearby trees for support. They are found in temperate forests as well as rainforests–you just can’t swing around on them.
In the Amazon of South America, some of these vines are broken and hanging from trees. I’ve personally swung on one of these vines, but definitely not the distance that Tarzan would swing!
