Are there any albatross in California?

The short-tail albatross is a California native.  Once a fairly common sight, the bird came dangerously close to extinction in the mid twentieth century due to people hunting them for their feathers.  Conservation efforts helped bring those numbers up from 50 adults to 500, with about 1100 estimated total.
