Africanized honeybees are a hybrid between African and European Honeybees.  They occur in South America, Central America and the Southern regions of the United States.  Africanized bees came about in 1956 when researchers imported bees from Africa to Brazil to improve beekeeping in the tropics. In the 1990’s they moved into the US.  The bees move northward at a rate of about 200-300 miles per year
