Yes. Biosphere 2 in Arizona, constructed in 1991, is currently abandoned. It cost about $200 million to construct. It was created as a means of observing the interaction of natural biomes, but the research was never completed. The biosphere was recently sold to private developers in 2007. Today tourists can visit Biosphere 2, but it is in a state of decrepitude.
