Although they may look like it, teeth are actually not composed of bone. A tooth is a synthesis of four parts: enamel, dentin, cementum, and pulp.
Teeth are composed of multiple types of tissues that vary in density and hardness. What we typically think of when we think of teeth is the tooth enamel, which consists of mostly hydroxylapatite, a crystalline calcium phospate. That’s why dentists tell you to drink milk in order to keep your teeth strong and healthy; the calcium in milk helps strengthen your tooth enamel and can prevent chips or cavities.
