The type of global warming education in schools likely varies depending on teacher and community. But in the early 1990s when I was in high school I took an environmental science class where we examined greenhouse gasses and measured the health of streams and rivers near my city to see the impact of development. These types of classes have been available for some time, but because of national focus on climate change issues no doubt more teachers are bringing it into their curriculum for all kinds of classes. There is even an organization (with their homepage link below) to help people who want to educate about climate change.
