Yes, swordfish and marlins are related – they both belong to the billfish family, for they have bills that resemble swords. Unlike swordfish who have a dorsal fin similar to that of a shark, marlins have a single dorsal fin that connects along their back. Marlins also have very small pectoral fins, whereas swordfishs’ pectoral fins are longer and extended below their bodies. The bill of a swordfish is also longer and flatter than that of a marlin.
