S.U.V’s have become increasingly popular in China over the past few years. It is estimated that about 370,000 of them were sold in China in 2007, a 58% increase from 2006. Personal cars are usually out of reach financially for the average Chinese citizen, but among the wealthier Chinese population, S.U.V’s have gained a lot of popularity and continue to grow. According to studies, only about 1% of the Chinese population breathes air that is considered healthy by the European-Union’s air quality standards. While these cars have grown in popularity, their growth may need to subside to help the air quality situation.
