Are steel mills bad for the environment?

    Thank you for this question.  Steel mills do have a negative impact on the environment.  As seen in the article linked below, the main concern is the carbon monoxide which escapes from melting metals during steel production. Also, some other impacts are the “generation of large quantities of water, both cooling water and water from wet scrubbers used for pollution control”.
