Yes. Methane, chemical formula CH4 (one carbon bound to four hydrogens) has more of an environmental effect than carbon dioxide, chemical formula CO2 (one carbon with double bonds to two oxygens). Methane reduces the presence of oxidants in the atmosphere. These oxidants would otherwise oxidize sulphur containing compounds to sulfates, and the sulfates would have a cooling effect. Carbon monoxide also has a similar effect.
