Yes and no – Not all Smart Grids have been automated and computerized, however, there is legislative support for “national grid modernization.” The U.S. Department of Energy is the lead agency in the development of Smart Grid implementation and has a Smart Grid Advisory Committee as well as a Federal Smart Grid Task Force. The U.S. Department of Energy has goals to use the Smart Grid system to meet electricity demands more efficient and reliable throughout the U.S.
Through wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric and other renewable energy resources, the nation is attempting to build more transmission interconnection lines to meet electricity demands as well.
