Are ski areas in South America more or less eco-friendly than ski areas in America?

There doesn’t seem to be any data that I can find on this specifically. In general, the main eco-friendliness factor is the intrusion of the ski slopes on the land (or the use of artificial snow). Typically, the laws restricting land use tend to be a little more loose in South American countries, so I would surmise that they don’t have the same environmental impact study requirements when opening a ski resort. However, like I said, I am only surmising. Without hard data, it’s difficult to say.
