The cheapest technology of solar energy to have on your home is solar thermal. Solar thermal can heat up your home’s water with very little energy use. A typical 40 gallon solar collector will roughly cost around $5,000, and that is before tax credits and incentives roll in. First you have the federal tax credit of 30% and depending on what state you live in and if they offer any incentive programs it can even go lower than that!
But solar shingles aren’t the cheapest, I haven’t really even seen any solar shingles out on the market anymore, now that thin film has been introduced.
