Not all seals are endangered, but there are multiple species that are. Of them are the monk seal and the fur seal. At first these animals were endangered because of hunting but now the main concern is pollution and habitat alteration.
Currently five species of seals are endangered, out of the 33 known species of the family seals belong to (Pinnipeds). The Hawaiian monk seal, the Mediterranean monk seal, the Siamaa seal, the Guadalupe fur seal, and the Steller’s seal are on the endangered species list. The most endangered of these at this time is the Mediterranean monk seal, of which there may at this time be only 400-650.
The Carribean monk seal is believed to be extinct in 1952, when the last one was spotted.
