Of the 7 species of sea turtles worldwide, 6 of them are on the endangered species list. They have become threatened by the fishing industry, climate change, and the pollution of their habitat. Turtles are also caught for food, although this practice has become outlawed in many areas.

6 out of 7 soecies are listed as either threatened or endangered.  Some like the leatherback, Kemp’s Ridley, and hawksbill sea turtles are unfortunately currently listed as critically endangered. There are currently some great preservation programs in Goa that help by protecting the beach where they lay their eggs, and also raising awareness in the local community, which will hopefully help in the long run.
